Frequently asked questions

General

Do your wigs come pre-styled?

No. All our wigs are made from human hair. Only synthetic wigs come pre-styled. The beauty about human hair wigs though is they can be styled and coloured any which way you choose. However, you can request for your wig to be styled upon completion of your custom order request.

How do I return a product?

All products are entitled to a two-week return policy. If a customer is unhappy with their product, they can make a formal complaint via the online contact form. After this, a review will be conducted and 40% of your initial payment will be refunded. You will, however, be responsible for any transportation and delivery costs. Lashes are not eligible for refunds unless they arrive damaged or go missing during delivery. This is because of the nature of the product. Visit our 'Shipping & Returns' Page under 'Extras' to find out more.

How can I track my order?

Being able to track an order is dependent on the shipping method selected upon checkout. Find out more on our 'Shipping and Returns' Page under 'Extras'.

How do I pay for my order in a different currency?

All order invoices are processed through a third-party organization. However, we accept payment via direct transfer in pounds, US dollars and naira or via Paypal. To make payments in foreign currencies, transfers can be made using platforms such as Transferwise which offers currency conversion at cheap rates. Kindly contact us via live chat, email or by using the online contact form if you have any further questions.

What do I do if an item I want is out of stock?

If an item you want is out of stock, kindly contact us via the online contact form and we will look into possibly restocking it.

Does Kalani offer discounts?

Yes! All first orders for wig services are entitled to 10% off their entire order and other discounts and deals are announced on the official Kalani Collective Instagram page: @kalanicollective.

What is a lace front?

Lace fronts (or lace frontals) are wigs that create the illusion of a natural hairline. The sheer lace material can be trimmed to match your own hairline to give you a more realistic, natural look. It can be used with or without lace glue but is recommended to be glued down. You can also put foundation on the lace to blend perfectly into your own skin or request for it to be bleached and dyed.

They’re perfect for people with busy lifestyles or who prefer having their wig securely glued onto their head.

Wig Care

How do I care for my wigs?

1. Wash your wigs with sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner.

2. Wash your wigs occasionally or depending on how frequently you wear them.

3. NEVER use heavy oils or styling creams and avoid using heat on hair, especially on curly styles.

Can I use regular hair products on my wig?

Yes, but I wouldn’t risk it. Regular products contain harmful chemicals which can damage hair fibres and potentially make your wig look old a lot quicker.

If you do though, I would recommend organic products or products for natural hair as they contain less harmful chemicals.

Can I swim in my wig?

I would not recommend this because:

- Water can make wigs become tangled which can increase shedding and damage the wig.

- Pool chemicals and saltwater also damage wig fibres.

- Some chemicals can also cause your wig to change colour and can lessen the lifespan of your wig.

Can I sleep in my wig?

Yes, BUT protect it! Honestly, the beauty of wigs is the ability to take them off whenever you please and there's no greater feeling for me than taking mine off at the end of a very long day. If you do wear it to sleep though, wear something that makes you feel comfortable but also protects the hair. I’ve seen a lot of woman wearing a bonnet cap but personally, I prefer a nice, silk scarf.

How do I store my wig?

I recommend purchasing a wig stand to store a wig when you’re not wearing it. If you don’t have a wig stand, store your wig in any dry, cool area away from direct sunlight. Or if you can't buy a wig stand, improvise and use any tube-shaped object like a hair spray can to hold your wig up.

How do I avoid getting my wig dirty from sweat?

Wear a wig cap! They help to absorb a lot of the sweat and are usually made from lightweight, breathable material so they don’t feel heavy or too tight. They last for long periods of time and can also be disposed of and replaced quite easily. They usually come in foundation base tones as well as in neutral colours like black.

How often should I wash my wig?

The recommended time is every 6 weeks or twice a month but if you have a busy lifestyle, this might be nearly impossible. How often you wash your wigs though depends on how active you are and how frequently you wear them.

Wig Styling

How do I select a wig colour?

There are four main things to consider when choosing a wig colour. Visit our 'Discover Your Style' Page under 'Content Central' to find out more.

Can I use regular hair products when styling a lace frontal?

Yes, BUT avoid anything with alcohols in it as they weaken the bonds within the glue and cause lace frontals to rise.

Can my wig be dyed, coloured and re-styled?

All Kalani wigs are made from human hair meaning they can be coloured and re-styled. However, it is difficult to re-dye a wig after it’s already been coloured so I would suggest picking a colour and sticking to it or buying a new wig to try out new colours.

Can I cut my wig?

Yes, but I recommend getting it professionally done to avoid unfortunate mishaps which cannot be corrected. In case you didn't know, wig hair DOES NOT grow back!

Kalani offers a professional styling and repair service for £25. Visit our ‘Our Services’ Page under 'Wigs & More' to find out more.

What do you do on holiday? Is it safe to wear a wig?

Don’t believe the myths, yes you can wear a wig on holiday! I would recommend a lace frontal because they allow you to do a lot more without being worried about your wig slipping off. They’re just a little harder to maintain but you'll feel a lot better knowing you can have fun AND look your best.

Will my wig blow off?

No, no and no! As long as you secure it firmly on your head, you should be able to even do exercise with a wig on.

I prefer to secure my wig by wearing a wig cap (they make wearing a wig more comfortable) and using bobby pins to secure the wig onto my head. I also tie the elastic band at the back of my wig together to make it even tighter. Some people sew on an elastic band and others just use bobby pins to secure their wigs.

The WigFix is also a great product for securing wigs.

Different things work for different people so make sure to find what works best for you.

Can I use heat appliances on my wigs?

Wigs can withstand at least 180 degrees heat so yes you can BUT do not overdo it and avoid applying heat to wet hair as this can have semi-permanent effects on the appearance of your wig. I curl and straighten my wigs all the time but just be careful to not burn the hair.

Also, avoid straightening curly hair.

Lashes

What are faux mink lashes?

They are premium synthetic lashes intended to mimic the quality and lightness of mink or real lashes. They're vegan friendly and sourced cruelty-free. They're the healthier, long-lasting alternative to other lash types as they look natural, are made from plastic fibres (as opposed to mink hairs), and can last 20-25 uses.

How long will the lashes last?

The lashes are good for between 20-25 uses. They're a safe, long-term investment and will not decrease in quality or change style over use.

Do they hurt to wear?

No! Faux mink lashes are light-weight and should generally, not irritate the eye. However, new lash wearers may experience some discomfort adusting to having a foreign product being put on their eyelid. With time and practice, this feeling will fade.

What's the best way to put them on?

How you put on your lashes is dependent on you. Some people prefer to use their fingers to apply their lashes. Whereas others would use an application tool such as tweezers or lash applicators to wear their lashes. Sign up to become a member and access our lash application tutorial under our 'Content Central'.

Can I still use mascara over lash extensions?

Yes you can but this is not advised as this can damage the lashes, particularly delicate styles, and reduce the number of times you can reuse them. It might be better to apply the mascara onto your natural lash before wearing your false lashes.

How do you care for false lashes?

Place your false lashes into a water or cleaning solution. Gently rub them to remove any mascara or other product residue from the lashes. Set them in a clean place to dry.

What's the difference between single and double sets?

Single sets come with one pair of lashes in one box. Double sets combine two lash styles from the single sets into one box so you get more value for less money.
